Removing Stigma by Changing Hearts and Minds One Person at a Time
Building Dementia Friendly Communities and Businesses is a growing movement and is of critical importance. Our founder Lori La Bey made a pitch to The Lutheran Home Association to launch the first Dementia Friendly Community in the United States, which they did in 2013. She is also a founding member of the Roseville Alzheimer's and Dementia Community Action Team which is a very active group in Minnesota who is also working internationally on airport travel.
Most people don't realize that every 3 seconds someone in the world is getting diagnosed with a form of dementia. Yet, we know these numbers are low as many people fear the stigma associated with a diagnosis. We are also seeing more people at younger ages like 30's, 40's, 50's and 60's getting diagnosed with various forms of dementia. The actual number of people effected by a diagnosis is substantially larger given the ripple effect through families, circles of friends, coworkers, groups, and our communities at large. There is no better time then the present to address this issue and to shift dementia care from crisis to comfort.

The Global Purple Angel Project was started by Norms McNamara, a man living with dementia in Torquay in the Untied Kingdom. The symbol has embraced by individuals and organizations around the world spreading dementia awareness.
