ADRIFT
ADRIFT
By Jane Moore 2012-12-11
I STEP OUTSIDE MYSELF AWHILE
THE FACE I HAD NOW BEARS A SMILE
I LEAVE MY SADNESS AND MY FEAR
AND WALK TOWARDS ANOTHER YEAR.
NOW CALM AND QUIET IN THIS FOREIGN LAND
WHERE MEMORIES FLEE
AND I MUST STAND
WALK WITH ME AWHILE, MY MUM –
AND I WILL SHOW YOU HOW IT’S DONE.
WE’LL TAKE THIS DEMON BY THE THROAT
SET HIM ADRIFT – NOW HE’S AFLOAT!
WE’LL SPEND OUR TIME IN DEMENTIA’S WORLD
AND FIND A PATHWAY THROUGH
REMEMBERING THIS
REMEMBERING THAT
MANY TIMES OVER TOO
I WANT TO GO HOME I HEAR YOU SHOUT
WHERE “HOME” IS YOUR COMFORT – THAT’S WHAT IT’S ABOUT.
I’LL STAY BESIDE YOU DAY BY DAY
UNTIL THE DEMONS GO AWAY
THIS WORLD OF OURS WILL NOT LEAVE ME
UNTIL A CURE WILL SET US FREE
AND THEN
ADRIFT
I AM
JUST ME
