The husband of a woman with Alzheimer’s who recently moved to our community expressed the need for ladies to reach out in friendship to his wife. I organized a group of ladies called Lady-Links to visit our new friend on a regular basis with the purpose of engaging her in activities that she can do and enjoy. Our group feels that dementia doesn’t define our friend’s life. Her character, experiences, faith and temperament still have significant contributions to determining who she is. Her social skills, communication skills and even some of her cognitive skills have improved since our visits began over one year ago.
