Dementia – An Ordinary Day
An Ordinary Day
by Julie forster
The long shift begins, with a nice friendly smile, to the little old lady, who’s staying on trial. The sink is prepared, with soaps and toothpastes, we turn to the lady, without any haste. She looks at us, a frown on her face, we smile back at her, as if we know our place. We go to her level, hands down the side, and ask her clearly, if she would like us to guide? She looks right through us, with wide open eyes, what is she thinking, will we hear her cries, we do not touch, we do not mock, apart from our voices, all we hear is “tick tock” she looks at us, her lips a slight curl. Then takes our hand, like a little girl. A smile appears from ear to ear, awww what a sweetie, a lovely old dear, we turn around, not making a sound, when all of a sudden, something hits the ground, she’s sitting so quietly, with a smirk on her face. She said that her stick sort of lost its place. But years of experience, years of similar stuff, we kn0w this old lady, has fooled us enough, but through her rants and her kicks, or her language she yells, we know this old lady, is out of her she’ll, although she may kick, although she might bite, we stay with her, during the night, she has a disease, that has taken her over, if she only knew, as her daughter would say, she would be broken would run away, so our message to you, is to understand, this shell of his person, is out of her hands đź‘Śthe end

Color Your Mind by Maria Shriver
“This is an amazing book which brings a holistic approach to engaging those with dementia and their care partners. I love how Maria intertwines the simple yet creative works of coloring which has been embraced by so many people looking for a peacefulness within and now has created a product specifically designed for those living with dementia.”
