Our Host, Lori La Bey talks with Alban Maino, a Franco-American documentary film producer based in Portland, Maine and the CEO of Memory Lane TV.  Alban was inspired by his personal experience caring for his grandmother.  He explains, “When my grandmother, Rosette, was affected by Alzheimer’s, I searched and searched for a tool, a medicine, something to help manage her symptoms, but found there were no effective options available. I delved into the published research, and slowly discovered decades of investigations into sensory stimulation and memory. Eventually I was able to leverage my media background and construct some sensory stimulation tools based on that research that helped with my Grandmother’s symptoms. This was the genesis of Memory Lane TV.”

A Deeper Dive on Memory Lane TV

Memoro, Inc. is the company behind the recent launch of Memory Lane TV, a digital health tool designed to alleviate many of the common behavioral and psychological symptoms experienced by people living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.

At the heart of its design is the employment of sensory stimulation, which has been proven an effective approach to help those living with dementia.  We spent more than five years developing this solution, translating more than fifty years of published medical research on dementia, sensory stimulation, and memory activation into an effective and easy to use form factor: A streaming media service providing therapeutically designed content that supports the wellbeing of individuals living with Memory Loss.

This specialized content includes a collection of scientifically designed films, with elements of music, soundscapes, video sequences, and still image montages that combine to induce a variety of responses in the viewers, such as anxiety and stress reduction, re-grounding with the circadian rhythm to combat sundowning, appetite stimulation, increased engagement, memory activation, and other positive benefits.  Moreover, it is unique in that much of it is designed to be used in conjunction with olfactory stimulation – the use of aromas to incorporate the sense of smell – in a harmonized, integrated way.  Adding olfactory stimulation in such an integrated way is like turning the benefits dial to eleven!

Finally, unlike regular television, which can exacerbate the very symptoms that our approach is designed to combat, all of our content is plot-free and non-character dependent; it’s non-editorial.  This aspect can be confusing at first, but it’s important to remember that this is not entertainment, it is a therapeutic tool designed to achieve symptomatic relief.
