Wandering The Gift

Here is a beautiful poem written by granddaughter, inspired by visits with her grandmother diagnosed with dementia.

Wandering The Gift

by Michelle Villanueva

she smiles wistfully as though green

dances along some bright field

alive in mind yet lost to time’s dull grasp

these moments more precious than lace

gracing the table where jokes and hot cocoa

years ago warmed thick winter afternoons

hers remains the power of lilac petals

overflowing with hope for the spring rains

tell me the story of those sunlit streams

I whisper her laughter the sound of tiny birds

with care as the steady clouds she holds my hand

teases of lilac scent the air as we wander past
