Once Again Our Dementia Experts

Delivered the Goods!

Each time we do one of these free webinars I am amazed at the information and insight we receive so freely from our experts living with Dementia.  These sessions are so helpful in shifting our dementia care culture, and helping us become dementia friendly. Today’s session featured:

Steve Ponath, who was diagnosed with EOAD in 2011. He has become an advocate for those who can’t speak out about the disease. It’s time to bring awareness to everyone of what this disease does to not only the patient, but to the caregiver’s and loved ones who are on this journey with us.

Dena Dotson, who was diagnosed with Lewy Body with probable Alzheimer’s at age 47 2011. She is working hard to decrease the stigma attached with dementia.

Michael Ellenbogen, who is 54 years old. His career was in Information Technology, where he was a high level manager. Michael was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease at the age of 49. He is no longer able to work. Michael now spend my time trying to increase awareness of this disease, and work to increase funding for research. He just finished writing his book outlining my experience with Alzheimer’s.

We discussed several general questions like:

What does Dementia feel like?

Do you have people you consider angels that have come into your life since dementia?

Does the full moon affect you and your dementia?

What about driving?  How do you know when it’s time to stop?

We also discussed the interactive play that will debut tomorrow.

Event: A Meeting of the Minds webinar for people with dementia and others meeting the challenges of dementia

Topic: Premiere of To Whom I May Concern Online play – Seven people living with the symptoms of dementia relate their real-life stories using the power of a theatrical performance, all performed and recorded online. Stay after the premiere for the “Talk Back” — an opportunity for the audience to ask questions of the performers and to hear more of their experiences.
