Harry Urban, lives with Dementia, but he is not letting his diagnosis stagnate his life.  harry UrbanOver time Harry has learned to embrace this disease and it has given him a new purpose in his life.  Below, is a note from Harry about his new online support group called  Forget Me Not which uses the Facebook platform and is a “Secret” group, yet is open to the public via referral.  The group welcomes all who are looking for a safe and comfortable spot to chat with others who are dealing with Dementia.  To join the group, go to FaceBook and in the search bar put in “Harry Urban” and ask to be a friend and to join the group.  You may also want to note why you are interested in joining the group as well.

Here is Harry’s note:

A big thank you to all that are making my dream become a reality. Forget Me Not is designed so we have a place to go and share the love and support we need so badly. I wanted a place where we can walk hand in hand during our walk down this path of Alzheimer’s.

A place where we can get to know and understand what it is like living with dementia. In order to really understand Alzheimer’s and the patient suffering from dementia you need to know and understand the person. Everyone is different and there is no cookie cutter for describing someone living with dementia.

Once you learn what is inside a person, you begin to understand why they do the things they do. We don’t open our eyes in the morning and are agitated; something in our environment makes us agitated. Getting to know the person helps us understand what is causing the agitation.

My goal is to help all of us learn ways to make this road of dementia easier for us.

I also wanted to remind people of the FREE webinar series Dementia Chats.  Our next session will be this Tuesday at 3pm EST, 2pm CST, 12pm PST.

  1. I was just on Facebook and found a few closed groups with the same name. Can you clarify which one?

    Thanks,

    1. HI Maria,
My error. The group is a secret group, not a closed group… so many options; so the best way to join is to go to Harry Urban’s facebook page and just ask him to join. He made it a secret group, as this way it’s for people who are referred and have a true interest in developing a community.

      Thanks for letting me know!
