Today on Alzheimer’s Speaks Radio, Lori La Bey talks with three powerful women who are exceptional advocates for those living with and those caring for a person diagnosed with a form of dementia.
Lori La Bey will talk with Rev. Jeanette B. Jordan – known as Pastor J, is the Founder and Pastor of Journey to the Cross Ministries, a Multi-Denominational Church in Park Forest, IL. Also join us is Tammy Jacobs who is a Community Engagement Specialist with the New IDEAS study and Dr. Fayron Epps, a nurse with over 20 years of experience who is currently serving as an assistant professor the Director of Community and Research Engagement in the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Emory University, Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing.
Pastor J has been married to Dr. Robert A. Jordan, for 60 years. Robert was a pediatrician, and he was diagnosed with Dementia/Alzheimer’s in 2016. Pastor J serves as an Alzheimer’s Community Educational Facilitator, New IDEAS Champion for Chicago, Alter Program Partner, Co-Host of Women of Faith Caregiver Support Group.
Tammy is responsible for the recruitment of Champion volunteers who will share awareness about the study, Alzheimer’s disease, and other dementias. She has a background in working with residents in low-income housing communities, she has had stellar results with bringing communities together for their greater good.
Dr. Epps is a Fellow at the American Academy of Nursing, Southern Gerontological Society, and Gerontological Society of America. She is the founder of the Alter Program, a nurse-led dementia-friendly congregation program. Dr. Epps also works to place culturally-tailored evidenced-based programs and interventions in the hands of those individuals who need it the most.
